Your Antique Kroeber Clock Experts

At Clock Repair Studio, we welcome your Kroeber clocks for professional repair, service, and maintenance. Kroeber clocks — crafted in New York in the late 1800s — are cherished heirlooms that reflect 19th-century American clock-making. These timepieces often feature eight-day time-and-strike movements and ornate mantel or parlor case styles that deserve careful attention and expertise to keep running accurately and reliably.

Many vintage Kroeber clocks are prized by collectors and families alike for their decorative appeal and mechanical ingenuity. Whether you’ve inherited your clock, found it at an estate sale, or acquired it for your collection, its age and design make it both historically significant and mechanically delicate. Proper servicing can preserve its function and beauty for years to come.

Why Kroeber Clocks Are Still Valued

Kroeber clocks hold a special place in American horological history. With production rooted in the mid-19th century and incorporation as the F. Kroeber Clock Company in 1887, these clocks represent a transitional era in U.S. clock-making, blending imported and domestic craftsmanship. Even though the company’s corporate operations ended in 1904, Kroeber clocks endure thanks to their crafted cases, decorative features, and distinctive presence in early American homes. Collectors and heritage enthusiasts value them not only as antiques but as functional mechanical artifacts that bridge industrial history and decorative art.

History Summary

The Kroeber Clock Company began around 1860, when Florenz Friederick Martin Kroeber — a German immigrant — first worked in New York’s clock trade before establishing his own business. Over the subsequent decades, his company produced a wide variety of mantle, parlor, and regulator clocks, often incorporating quality movements and decorative cases. By the late 1880s, Kroeber’s offerings had expanded significantly, and the firm was formally incorporated in 1887. Although economic changes later forced the business into receivership by 1899 and eventual closure in 1904, Kroeber clocks remain notable examples of Victorian-era American clock design. Caring for a Kroeber Clock

Antique Kroeber clocks are mechanical instruments that benefit from regular care, even when they appear to run well. Dust, dried lubricants, and worn pivots can affect movement performance over time, leading to inaccuracies or stopped mechanisms. We recommend periodic cleaning, inspection, and oiling by a skilled professional to preserve both the clock’s timing and structural integrity. Proper care helps prevent wear and protects the historical value of your Kroeber timepiece.
