In 1880, Sligh Company was founded in Grand Rapids, Michigan. It was known as a manufacturer of bedroom furniture. in the 1960s, the company’s main line of furniture was for student dormitory rooms.

The Sligh Furniture Company acquired the Trend Clock Company in 1968, and the company thereafter started producing excellent quality clocks.

As dormitory student room furniture demand faded in the 1970s, clocks grew rapidly, taking up the slack, allowing Sligh to become a prestigious maker of all types of clocks, including their well-known line of grandfather clocks.

In 2005, the business was sold. Lexington Home Brands purchased the remaining Sligh furniture in 2011, and they continue to market their products under the Sligh trademark.
