The Ansonia Brass Company, established by Anson Greene Phelps in 1844, is where the Ansonia Clock Company got its start. One of the most significant American clock makers in the 19th century, the Ansonia Clock Company manufactured millions of clocks until 1929, when the business entered receivership and ceded its remaining assets to Soviet Russia.
